Team Summary. Established by ex-factory team driver Malcolm Wilson, M-Sport was selected to breathe new life into Ford’s World Rally Championship programme in 1997. Former world champions such as Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz and Marcus Grönholm delivered numerous rally victories, the latter leading the squad to back-to-back manufacturers 2008 saw Van Merksteijn alter between a number of cars, the Evo VIII and IX's and a Ford Focus RS WRC 06. He also used an 07-spec Focus WRC for the final Dutch Rally Championship round. He only contested in two Dutch Rally rounds, finishing second in both rounds. The Focus RS WRC 07 is based on the 2006 model, and according to Ford’s technical director Christian Loriaux “the changes on the new car are mainly to save weight and to improve efficiency, driveability and performance at the bottom end of the range.”
