The EGR problem is well known and documented. As Mixman says unless they have some proof they can’t really do anything but that does not mean they need to see the EM light or any code. If you have seem the EM light come on and the car has been into limp home mode that would /should be good enough for a VX dealer.

I get the P0401 code all the time (restricted air flow to egr ) , I also have a 16cdti ,I cleaned out the metal looking Flexy pipe at back of engine right hand side , it did help for about 1000 mls but recently popped the code up again thinking about spending £110 on a terraclean.
Having a bit of a nightmare with my 2012 insignia. Ready to give it a good kicking. Car kept going into limp mode on a daily basis with a "service your vehicle" warning.
